Slow Cooker Jambalaya

“shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s…

Pork Spare Ribs in a Cast Iron Skillet

First of all, I need to preface this by saying I got THE best Secret “Politically Correct” Snowman gift of all time this year – a cast iron skillet from Williams-Sonoma! Having our wonderful guidance counselor Seth as my Snowman was definitely the jackpot. He knew I loved cooking and even got me the cookbook Collards…

Sticky Orange Chicken Drumsticks

I made these on Saturday and they were finger lickin’ good. We wanted to have an early dinner because we were going to ride the Staten Island Ferry for fun (bucket list!). We ate this with some fresh corn and it tasted like a great summer meal (pun intended).

Football Dip

My husband’s Aunt Susan has made this dip the past two Christmases. The cousins will congregate, hover, and it will be gone within ten minutes. Yesterday we had two buddies over to watch the Patriot’s dominate and I thought this dip would go over well. It did. For about ten minutes. Then it was gone….

Chili

Last year I went to a Superbowl Party in Manhattan (Ooo Brooklyn girl goes to the big city). Sadly, the Patriots lost, but on the bright side, I got to eat some delicious chili! My husband works with Nick, our host, and his girlfriend/our hostess Alex was kind enough to share this recipe with me….

Carnitas or Pulled Pork Tacos

I’m going to keep this short because it’s really very simple. Hubby and I made a ton of pulled pork the other day and we enjoyed a second pulled pork sandwich the following night. However, as much as I love stretching my food dollar, I just could not serve pulled pork sandwiches 3 nights in…

Pulled Pork Sandwich

I told you I was going to use my Crock-Pot again this weekend and I delivered. No Memorial Day would be complete without great food. The hub and I went to a fun barbecue on Sunday at our friends Tom and Erica’s new pad in DUMBO, but one day of good eats is not enough…

Beyonce’s Guacamole

Beyonce, at times formerly known as Sasha Fierce, is one heck of a woman. She can sing, dance, act, and my goodness… she actually looks like she knows how to eat (now I just need to spot her at Frankie’s 457 on Court Street). So when my mom took out a recipe BY Beyonce for me to whip up…

Simple Salsa

Sometimes, it’s really, really simple. This salsa recipe comes to you from my uncle Paul, who farms the 160 acre Foggy Meadow Farm in Benson, VT. I’m pretty sure he won’t mind me sharing this with you.

American Chop Suey

About a year ago I was talking about cooking with my dad, when he casually mentioned his favorite meal was American Chop Suey. This completely caught me by surprise for 2 reasons: a) we hardly ever had American Chop Suey growing up and b) my dad is Italian. As in, the birthplace of dishes like Chicken…

Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

Buff Chick. That is what I am trying to be with my upcoming nuptials. That is also what I ate tonight. And it was awesome.

Meatball Sub

I’d call it a Manwich, but that might be under copyright by Sloppy Joe. I’m telling you, as a hearty Italian girl, I can professionally argue there is nothing more satisfying than a good old fashioned meatball sub. The man I cohabitate with seems to agree by the looks of this picture. So if you are in…

Calzones

My love for calzones started at Dighton House of Pizza. Greasy fingers… extra sauce. It’s all good. Now I’m spoiled since I can get almost any type of food: Italian, French, Thai, Japanese, Peruvian, Southern, Middle Eastern, etc,  by walking a few blocks. Growing up though, the Greek joint was the spot.. the closest spot…almost…

Meatballs

This is our mother Avis’s recipe for meatballs. It’s the first time I’ve made them without her help and I think they came out pretty well. You could, of course, have these with spaghetti, but we ate them tonight in a sandwich with provolone cheese and a salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
